Free Appliqué Workshop 14/07/2026 9:30am-12:30pm

This welcoming and hands-on appliqué workshop provides a calm and creative environment for adults to learn a new textile craft while building connections within their local community. Led by an experienced facilitator, participants will be guided through the process of designing and creating their own appliqué pieces, learning how to layer, arrange and attach fabric shapes to create decorative textile designs. The sessions are informal, supportive and suitable for complete beginners, with all materials and equipment provided.

Supported through Sunderland City Council’s Coalfields Area Committee, the programme has been designed to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. It offers a valuable opportunity for individuals to take time out from daily pressures, focus on a relaxing and absorbing creative activity, and express themselves through colour, pattern and fabric. The group setting encourages gentle social interaction, helping to ease feelings of isolation and create a sense of shared experience.
