Free Batik Workshop 23/06/2026 9:30am-12:30pm

This welcoming and hands-on batik workshop provides a calm and creative environment for adults to learn a traditional craft while building connections within their local community. Led by an experienced facilitator, participants will be guided through the process of designing and creating their own batik designs, using tjantings, waxes and fabric dyes . The sessions are informal, supportive and suitable for complete beginners, with all materials provided.

Supported through Sunderland City Council’s Coalfields Area Committee, the programme has been designed to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. It offers a valuable opportunity for individuals to take time out from daily pressures, engage in a soothing, sensory activity and express themselves in a creative way. The group setting encourages gentle social interaction, helping to ease feelings of isolation and create a sense of shared experience.
