Lino Printing: Reimagining the Visual World of the Witch Trials

As part of the Witches project, participants will be introduced to the traditional printmaking technique of lino printing, creating their own striking artworks inspired by the stories, imagery and historical sources explored throughout the programme.

Drawing on material presented during guest talks by Dr Katie Liddane, participants will examine visual representations connected to the North East witch trials and the wider social and cultural world of the seventeenth century. Historical illustrations, woodcuts, engravings and contemporary depictions of witchcraft, superstition and everyday life will provide inspiration for a series of creative printmaking sessions.

Working with facilitators, participants will select images, symbols and motifs that resonate with them before learning how to adapt these historical sources into lino print designs.
