Free Shibori Workshop 08/09/2026 9:30am-12:30pm

This welcoming and hands-on shibori workshop provides a calm and creative environment for adults to learn a traditional Japanese textile dyeing technique while building connections within their local community. Led by an experienced facilitator, participants will be guided through the process of folding, twisting, binding and shaping fabric to create unique patterns before applying vibrant dyes to produce their own distinctive textile pieces. The sessions are informal, supportive and suitable for complete beginners, with all materials provided.

Supported through Sunderland City Council's Coalfields Area Committee, the programme has been designed to promote positive mental health and wellbeing. It offers a valuable opportunity for individuals to take time out from daily pressures, engage in a mindful and creative activity, and express themselves through colour and design. The group setting encourages gentle social interaction, helping to ease feelings of isolation and create a sense of shared experience.
