About the event
As part of our National Lottery Heritage Fund supported project exploring the history and legacy of witchcraft accusations in the North East, Broadside Creatives is delighted to welcome historian Dr Katie Liddane for a fascinating guest talk examining what happened after the trials ended.
While many people are familiar with the events of the seventeenth century, the stories did not end with the final accusations, imprisonments and executions. This thought-provoking session will explore how witch trials continued to shape communities, culture and collective memory long after the trials themselves had passed into history.
Drawing connections between the North East, the Lancashire witch trials and the infamous events in Salem, Dr Liddane will examine how these histories have been remembered, retold and reinterpreted over the centuries. The talk will explore the lasting impact of witch trials on local identities, folklore, literature and popular culture, while considering why these stories continue to resonate…
