Witch! Unpacking Hatred and Promoting Tolerance, Inclusion and Sustainability in Our Modern World
On Friday 27th February 2026, we begin a powerful journey into one of the North East’s most complex and thought-provoking chapters of history. Join us at St Mark's Church Millfield, SR4 7BN, for two opening guest talks from 10.30am–11.30am and 12.00pm–1.00pm, led by Dr Katie Liddane.
These sessions will immerse us in the historical reality of the seventeenth century witch trials, focusing on Newcastle upon Tyne and the wider North East region. Far from myth or legend, these events were rooted in social unrest, political instability and deep-seated fear. Dr Liddane will unpack how suspicion became accusation, how systems of power amplified injustice and how women and marginalised individuals were disproportionately targeted in moments of crisis.
But this is more than a history talk. It is the foundation of a bold and urgent heritage programme. Witch! asks us to confront…
