The Newcastle Witches Memorial Walk
With Dr Katie Liddane
Join Dr Katie Liddane for a guided memorial walk through Newcastle on Friday 21st August, the anniversary of the deaths of the Newcastle witches. This unique walking tour explores the history of the North East witch trials through the landscapes and locations connected to those who lost their lives.
Beginning at 11.00am outside West Jesmond Metro Station, close to the area traditionally associated with the Town Moor executions, Dr Liddane will discuss what this landscape would have looked like during the seventeenth century, the evidence surrounding the execution site and the ongoing historical debate about its exact location.
The walk will then continue by Metro into Newcastle city centre before visiting St Andrew's Cemetery, where participants will explore what burial grounds can reveal about the past, the politics of remembrance, and why some histories are preserved while others disappear from public memory.
