Mudlarking : Our first heritage wellbeing programme

Updated: Jul 29, 2021

Thanks to the Heritage lottery fund we have designed a bespoke local community led heritage wellbeing programme focused around the art of Mudlarking. We will be hosting walks along the banks of Sunderland river Wear.

FREE MUDLARKING SESSIONS ON THE WEAR Come and join us on a treasure hunt into the history of our river!

Please spread the word

Following the interest in our earlier post, and again with massive thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund, we are delighted to announce the dates for our mudlarking walks.

Read on for information on what we have lined up, and how to secure your place! You can book onto multiple sessions. We will provide all tools, materials and equipment – just wear suitable waterproof clothing, bring your wellies, and prepare for the fun

Please note: we only have space for 10 people to attend each session, so please be quick to book your space using the link below

Session timetable Monday 9th August meeting at 10:15 (to finish around 11:45) Monday 23rd August meeting at 10:15 (to finish around 11:45)

How do I book my place? Booking is easy! Head over to https://www.eventbrite.co.uk/.../broadside-creatives-cic... Where will the sessions be held? We will be meeting in the car park outside of Sunderland Rowing Club. Please arrive a few minutes early so we can get started and spend as much time searching as possible

Session format Each session will include a short safety briefing, and around 1 hour on the foreshore searching for hidden artefacts and treasures. We will be using a metal detector and some small tools to help us find long lost items which may reveal glimpses into the history of our city and the industrial history of the River Wear.

Any artefacts we find will be analysed by archeologists and will form part of our final exhibition, which we will provide more information about very soon.

What Covid-safe measures are in place? We take the safety of our service users very seriously. We have full Covid-19 policies in place. We will provide sanitiser and each learner will have their own set of equipment to use during each session. Any shared equipment will be sanitised between each user.

If you have any questions, please send us a direct message. We look forward to seeing you soon!
